San Diego Comic Con 2005
Todd Shogun's 2005 SDCC Photo Album

The 2005 SDCC rocked! Stan was nominated for several Eisners this year, however, he did not win (phooey!). There was plenty of other cool stuff to see and behold however. Photos by Todd Shogun and Glenn Masuda.

Stan Signs books for Glennosuke!

The guy in the black t-shirt and glasses is writer Max Allan Collins who provided the introduction to UY Book 13: Grey Shadows. The guy with the pony tail and purple shirt is Adam Warren, probably the best American manga artist there is.

Usagi books a plenty!

Many a fan came to get their books signed

Fans are amazed at how nice Stan is

Even Todd Shogun waits in line for an autograph

Stan was popular with Fans and Pro's alike

Stan also did a few sketches

A wonderful UY painting by Lark Pien graced Stan's booth

Usagi needlepoint by Lorraine Savage

Usagi stain glass by Leah Perry

Tomoe painting by Stan! WOW!!!

Lark is a wonderful artist who paints on small canvases--no bigger than 5,7". She usually has a table in the dealers' room, and she is the first dealer Stan seeks out as he always buy a painting from her (he's got 7 so far). He had wanted to commission an Usagi painting, but she did this one as a gift.

Lorraine had put an ad in the Comic Buyer's Guide looking to buy a few back issues of UY. Stan sent her those issues to complete her collection. She sent a "thank you" letter to the Buyer's Guide, but they never printed it. She gave Stan the needlepoint as a thank you for his very small generosity.

Leah Perry of the US Territory Marshall Islandswas not there herself, so it was given to Stan by her friends. She has an online gallery at: http://Aernath.rubberslug.com

The Groo Panel

Stan at the ever popular Groo panel: "As a matter of fact, I DO enjoy attending the annual Groo panels!"

Mark Evanier at the Groo panel: "For the last time I have NO idea what Sergio means by mulch!"

Mark and Sergio get funny as always. If you've never been to the Groo Panel, then you haven't experienced one of life's greatest treats

The one and only Sergio Aragones: "What's this mulch thing everyone keeps asking about? Mark, are you sure you're translating my scripts correctly?"

Tom Luth, UY cover Colorist: "I'm just the colorist; that's all I do, color...I know nothing about this mulch thing. Stan?? A little help here??"

The whole Groo Crew: Say "Cheese Dip"!

Helping the UY fans out

While it may look somewhat light at the booth, this photo op represented the only time clear photos of the booth could be obtained...

...fans were in full force the entire day, with peple buying the new limited edition Art of UY print, dozens of UY Trades, the new UY RPG Book from Sanguine, the new UY Sketchbook, the Spanish UY Art Book, and tons of other UY collectibles...

...it was busy the entire time, but the adventure was worth it! Now we know why Stan brings Sharon along...it's too much to handle for one cartoonist!!

It was great working at Stan's booth, meeting all the fans, answering questions, and otherwise helping out the Sensei as he signed, sketched, and greeted his many admirers...

Stan's booth was armed to the teeth with boxes of UY books that constantly re-filled the tables as the books flew off the shelves...

...also behind the tables were water bottles to prevent dehydration, snacks to ensure energy delivery, and even a cooler with some sushi rolls with wasabi for lunch...

Kari VikingBabe eats lunch at Stan's booth. Gotta love those sushi rolls...

VikingBabe took the load off of ToddShogun's responsibilities while he took a break to go check out a couple panels...

...She's got it covered! She also devoured the last of the sushi!

Cool UY Merchandise available at the con

Stan has a secret stash of UY Buttons from Sanguine featuring color UY artwork from the comics. He gave these away to UYD Members.

Stan discovered a bunch of these UY t-shirts from circa 1988-89, originally offered by Fantagraphics Books. They sold out almost immediately for only $10 each!

Stan had copies of the UY Spanish Art books for sale...offered no where else in America but at the SDCC!

Along with the original UY Sketchbook fromlast year's con, Stan had copies of the UY Sketchbook Volume 2 available.

The Manga-sized French editions of UY made an appearance as well, right into Todd Shogun's greedy hands!

Not a UY item, but Stan passed this signed-by-Peter Laird copy of TMNT #1 Reprint along to Todd Shogun by way of Anthrocon 2005, where Pete made a rare con appearance with Stan
